We are huge fans of the community in which we chose to build the Owlhaven. Obviously the ocean is the biggest draw. But we also love the feel of the town itself. It’s small and not nearly as touristy as some of the bigger towns further north on the coast. This means less traffic, quieter beaches, less crime, and a more relaxing area for vacationing.

But as wonderful as Waldport is, being on the ocean makes the cost of living high for year-round residents. So we really try to support the community. Our hot tub is cleaned by a local person, as is the home itself. Each time we visit, we try to eat in Waldport for at least a meal or two, and we usually shop there as well.
This summer as we were doing some back to school shopping for our kids, another way to support Waldport occurred to me. I decided that while school supplies were on sale, I’d scoop up a few extra items for kids in the Waldport school district.

I figured that Waldport teachers, like teachers everywhere, often buy supplies from their own funds for their classrooms. So I decided that while I’m stocking up for my own family, I’ll also buy extras for kids in Waldport schools.
If you are planning a visit to the Owlhaven and would like to contribute, we’d love for you to join us in this project. Along with school supplies, feel free also to leave any (still-sealed) snack items, goodies that you purchased but did not end up using while you were here.

Some kids come to school hungry, and anything that teachers can give kids to fight those ‘hangry’ moments in class will help out. Leave your goodies in the basket labeled ‘Waldport Schools’ in the laundry room.
Each time we fill the basket, I’ll run it over to Crestview Heights School in Waldport. This will ease the burden on teachers and support families who live full-time in the town we so much love to visit!
Thanks in advance for contributing to this wonderful community!
